MD Psychiatrists

 

Dena Armstrong, MD, Doctor of Medicine, joined Carolina Partners in 2008.  She earned her BS with honors from North Carolina A&T State University, and her MD from Eastern Carolina University School of Medicine.  Dr. Armstrong has been in private practice in Charleston, S.C., and has worked with the University of Virginia Department of Endocrinology, and The Women's Place as a child birth educator.  She is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the National Medical Association.  Dr. Armstrong received a Certificate of Appreciation for Exceptional Patient Care from the Medical University of South Carolina, has given presentations on one of her specialties, Alzheimer's disease, and has been published in The Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurology.  She practices in our Chapel Hill, NC office, and specializes in medication management, depression, anxiety, and psycho-dynamic therapy for adolescents and adults. 

 

Lucile Clotfelter, MD, Doctor of Medicine, joined Carolina Partners in 2006.  She has a diverse educational background, having graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Music from the University of Georgia, an MFA in Piano Performance also from UGA, pre-med work at the University of Maryland, and an MD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Dr. Clotfelter's employment history includes Duke University Department of Psychiatry and Duke University Counseling and Psychological Services.  She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the NC Psychiatric Association and the NC Medical Society.  Her specialties include mood and anxiety disorders, and AD/HD.  Dr. Clotfelter treats adults in our Durham, NC office.

 

Karla de Beck, MD, Doctor of Medicine, joined Carolina Partners in 2005.  She earned her BS from Davidson College and her MD from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Dr. de Beck's work history includes professorships at both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine.  Dr. de Beck has presented at several national Psychiatric workshops including the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Annual Forensic Rights and Treatment Conference.  She specializes in psychotherapy, medication management, and forensic evaluations in our Durham, NC office.

 

Diana Graham, MD, Doctor of Medicine, joined Carolina Partners in 2008.  She earned her AB in Biological Anthropology from Harvard College, and her MD from Harvard Medical School.  Dr. Graham has previously been employed as an acting medical director, staff psychiatrist and an attending psychiatrist at Bellevue Hospital, as a clinical instructor at New York University School of Medicine, and as a staff psychiatrist at Yeshiva University Counseling Services.  She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Medical Society of the State of New York, and Disaster Psychiatry Outreach.  Dr. Graham has also been published in several academic journals including, Psychiatric News, Disaster Psychiatry: Intervening When Nightmares Come True, and in Time.Com, an online magazine.  Dr. Graham treats ages 18 to 65 in our Raleigh, NC office, where she specializes in psychiatry, neurology, psycho-pharmacology, and post-partum depression.

 

J. Gray McAllister, MD, Doctor of Medicine, joined Carolina Partners in 1996.  He earned a BS and MD in Medicine from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.  Dr. McAllister was in private practice for thirty years.  He also served in the U.S. Military at Valley Forge General Hospital.  Dr. McAllister is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the NC Medical Society, and the Wake County Medical Society.  He treats all ages at our Raleigh, NC office, where he specializes in affective disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, and dissociative disorders.

 

Rohima Miah, MD, Doctor of Medicine, has been with Carolina Partners since 2005.  She earned her BS in Anthropology and Zoology from the University of Michigan, and her MD from Ohio State University.  Her employment history includes time as a staff psychiatrist for Wake County Human Services.  Dr. Miah is an active contributor to the field of Psychiatry.  She has participated in several academic committees entitled "Pharmacy and Therapeutics" and the "Cultural Competence Committee", and has also given presentations at the Pfizer Psycho-Pharmacology Conference and the Emerging Anti-Psychotic Medications conference.  Dr. Miah specializes in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and work with the Seriously and Persistently Mentally Ill at our Raleigh, NC office, where she treats adults.

 

Yvonne Monroe, MD, Doctor of Medicine, is the founding partner of Carolina Partners in Mental HealthCare, PLLC.  She established the practice in 1994.  Dr. Monroe earned her BS in Biology and her MD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Before establishing Carolina Partners, Dr. Monroe worked as a psychiatric consultant for Wake County Mental Health Center and Johnston County Mental Health Center.  She has been published in the academic journal, 'Science', and has participated in several academic committees including the American Psychiatric Association Committee on Managed Care, the North Carolina Psychiatric Association Committee on Women, and an Economic Affairs and Health Care Management Committee.  Dr. Monroe is also a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the North Carolina Psychiatric Association.  She specializes in affective disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, and dissociative disorders in our Durham, NC office.

 

James Smith III, MD, Doctor of Medicine, has been with Carolina Partners since 2005.  He earned his BS and MD from Howard University.   Dr. Smith served as a Lieutenant Colonel for the USAD during Operation Desert Storm.  He also worked as chief psychiatrist at Central Prison Hospital, a clinical instructor of psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center, and an outpatient psychiatrist for Wake County Alcoholism Treatment Center.  Dr. Smith belongs to the American Psychiatric Association as a fellow, the North Carolina Psychiatric Association, and the L.A. Scruggs Medical Society.  He is very involved in his medical community and has given conferences at the Wake County Area Mental Health Conference and the Mental Health Networking Conference.  Dr. Smith is also involved in his local community, as a member of the Board of Directors for Catholic Social Ministries and Usher Board, and as a speaker at the NC Minority Business Leader Conference.  He is a managing partner of our Raleigh, NC office, where he specializes in general psychiatry and addiction medicine for all ages. 

 

Savitha Upadhya, MD, Doctor of Medicine, joined Carolina Partners in 2008.  She received her MD from J.J.M. Medical College in India.  Dr. Upadhya's employment history includes work as an adult psychiatrist at Lancaster General Psychiatric Association in Pennsylvania, as a physician's associate in Davangare, India, and as a junior resident in pediatrics in New Delhi, India.  She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Central Pennsylvania Psychiatric Association.  Dr. Upadhya treats adults in our Raleigh, NC Annex location, where she specializes in mood disorders, psychotic disorders, post-partum depression, schizophrenic disorders, OCS, and PTSD.
