David Runnels is a Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He graduated from UNC School of Nursing with honors and several certificates. While at school, he lent a hand in various research studies. David has had an extensive history working as a nurse that goes as far back as 2003, where he worked as a nursing supervisor. He then went on to work in the psychotic disorder unit, where he facilitated treatment care plans for the inpatient care unit, and administered and monitored medication. He currently works at the Cary, NC location and through our telehealth platform DirectCare. His specialties include working with people with depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and anxiety, for patients 18 years and older.
Why did you choose mental health as a career path?
“I enjoy meeting with and connecting to other people. I also get excited when I see the people I work with make positive changes in their lives. Helping others understand mental health symptoms and treatment is my passion.”
