Ms. Shulman earned her MS degree in Counseling in 1998 from UNC-Greensboro. She completed a year’s internship at Duke University Personal Assistance Service as an Employee Assistance Counselor, before establishing her private psychotherapy practice. Ms. Shulman has been involved in Triangle-wide community outreach for many years, offering services and support to underserved members of the community. This has included coming-out support groups and domestic violence volunteer training,

After receiving her BA degree in psychology from Duke University, she worked in an inpatient educational setting with teens who had emotional and behavioral challenges, and then provided vocational training to adults with developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, and autism. Later she had a position at Durham Technical Community College, where she focused on support for single parent students and students experiencing life crises.

Ms. Shulman currently sees adults ages 18 and older in her Durham, NC office on Broad Street. She has particular interest and expertise in LGBTQ affirmative therapy, women’s health, depression, communication skills, and relationship dynamics. She believes the therapy process must be client-driven and bases her work in cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, systems, and psychodynamic theories.
