Hypnosis

It is a common misconception that hypnosis is simply a cheap stage trick, but psychological hypnosis has actually been shown to be effective in improving the wellbeing of some patients. Resembling sleep, hypnosis is an induced state “marked by a functioning of the individual at a level of awareness other than the ordinary conscious state”. One theory suggests that hypnosis is a mental state, while others link hypnosis to imaginative role-enactment.
